June 2016
Congratulations to our Athlete’s of the Month, Ty and Silvana Hayden. Silvana came into our gym with a strong fitness background and has shown that you can continue to grow and improve even with a lot of experience. Ty comes from a sports background and has shown what consistency and hard work can do, he does a great job of staying within his means which has lead to his consistent growth. We are lucky to have both of them at our gym!
Tell us about yourself.
We have lived in New Castle 23 or our 25 years of marriage. We have 2 kids that are out of the house, one in college and one graduated from college with a career. Snowboarding, boating, golfing, hiking and camping are just some of the activities we have enjoyed living in this area. Now we reinvent ourselves again with our workouts.
When did you become a member at Defiance West?
Ty became a member of Defiance West last Labor Day and I joined a year ago.
What made you join Defiance West and why do you do it now?
When Cory opened Defiance West I took a class and was hooked and the same for Ty after he tried a class. We are always on the go the combination of strength training and conditioning gives us all the energy we need.
What were your thoughts after your first workout?
The first workout at Defiance West kicked my butt, squat thrusters and jump over bar burpees, for a month I wondered if I could really handle Cory’s class. Who am I kidding, every time Ty and I look at the board when we walk into the gym we cringe.
What is your athletic background?
Ty’s the athlete, he is gifted in baseball, wrestling, and played football in high school and college.
What is your favorite movement or workout?
We both like the strength training and AMRAP partner workouts. Basically any workout that give us a few seconds to breathe.
What is your least favorite?
Ty dislikes rowing and I dislike the bike, but really really dislike the sled push 6 times non-stop!
What has been your favorite or proudest moment since joining?
I’m sure this question is about strength or conditioning activity. But our favorite moments are the conversations with the people at the classes. Although our conversations are fast because of the workouts, the people at Defiance West are great!
How has Defiance West changed your life, lifestyle and level of fitness?
We went from working out 3 days a week, thinking we were working out, to 5 to 6 days a week getting our butts kicked! We both have increases our strength and conditioning levels.
What is your fitness goal for the year?
Ty would like to increase his pull-ups and I would like to increase my handstand push- ups and be able to do a muscle up.
What advice would you give the people looking to get started at our gym?
Cory gave me advice the first day at Defiance West, “all you have to do is step in the door.”
I think its true. Just show up and Cory will help you do the rest.
