September 2016

Congratulations to Brandi for being named our Athlete of the Month for September. Since she has joined us she has shown constant improvements in all areas in big part to her willingness to work hard and even do extra work before and after class. We are lucky to have her in our gym!

When did you become a member at Defiance West?

October 2015

What made you join Defiance West and why do you do it now?

I was in a running rut last fall and needed to change things up a bit. I was also tired of driving to Glenwood to go to the gym. I love the variety of the work outs.

What were your thoughts after your first workout?

That it wasn’t as bad as I thought.

What is your athletic background?

I never really played sports growing up. I only started excising after I had my first daughter in 2004. I started running because it was easiest thing to do with the girls.

What is your favorite movement or workout?

I didn’t think I would ever say this, but I really like snatching. It takes a lot of concentration and practice. I really like the challenge of that.

What is your least favorite?

It is a toss-up between thrusters and The Bear.

What has been your favorite or proudest moment since joining?

I have had a few proud moments. My proudest was probably running the mile in 7mins and 17secs (I think). I have really gotten stronger in all aspects of my life.

How has Defiance West changed your life, lifestyle, and level of fitness?

I have learned a lot more about nutrition since I started. I have taken what I learned during the challenges and incorporated that into my daily diet. I try to teach that to my kids too. I hope they can create better eating habits than I had when I was a kid. I feel like I am generally healthier than when I started.

What are your fitness goals for this year?

I am still working on mastering DU and pull ups. They are getting better.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

I really like to binge watch tv shows on Netflix.

What advice would you give to people looking to get started at our gym?

The hardest part is walking through the door. We have the most encouraging and welcoming members. You can pretty much do anything when you have all these wonderful people supporting you.
